Taking A Stab At Pie Making.

I like to bake but am not much of pie maker. I don't really know why. Well, I know why-I'm not a real fan of pie. That's a good enough reason. But we are in charge of "pies" for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, so pie baking it is.

I made this apple pie, a recipe from Brad's Aunt Norma, that she clipped from the Detroit Free Press. I can't seem to link it, I'll come back later and do that.

Here's the crust, made extra yummy with apple cider & cinammon in it. (Pardon my lame attempt at fluting the edge.) I must give credit to Good Eats' Alton Brown for my knowledge about cold butter and letting the crust rest in the fridge before I rolled it out.

And here's the completed pie. That's a yummy crumble topping on the top. And yes, some of you will recognize this photo as being taken on my kitchen floor. The counter was too messy to take a decent picture, so I put it on the floor. Whatever.

The boys helped me with the filling; Brendan peeled & sliced apples, Brett gathered the ingredients & measured everything out. Neither boy, however, ate any pie. They must've gotten my cake gene.

This is a very dense pie (which makes me chuckle to even write that; several years ago we ate "dense potatoes" and "stupid ham" one year for a holiday dinner, my smarty-pants cousin Joe named the food). The recipe says it gives "12 generous servings". I think it's more like 16 generous servings.

Not too shabby for my first stab at apple pie making!
