I felt so great purging all the papers and trinkets I'd been
Intent--that is the key word here.
I have not gone through this paperwork in 2 years. It just keeps building and building in my file cabinet. I leave it there because I know it's a good spot for it, but honestly, with hanging file folders that are 2" or more thick, it's time to clean it out.
It's a mess just WAITING to be purged, right?
I started by pulling everything out and going through each file folder. I had a lot of stuff hiding in the bottom of the filing cabinet that needed re-homing, too. Like this Lego guy.
Piles waiting to be sorted:
I had a large pile of "shred" and a smallish pile of "deal with in the kids' scrapbooks."
I made a list of the files to be created and then put the remaining paperwork back in the filing cabinet:
Why yes, yes that IS the bottom of the filing cabinet. It holds no Legos or extra papers or ANYTHING! The kids' files and my files are thinned out and waiting to be filled back up with this year's papers. However, I will do a better job at PURGING them when school is done this year. That I didn't purge them for TWO years is a little ridiculous.
Purge some files today! Maybe just tackle one drawer in a filing cabinet or maybe just purge a few files.

I am loving your blog on 31 days...minimalist and organized is a pipe dream of mine too. I noticed that you commented about so much artwork and stuff from your children. I am also a scrapbooker. And I take artwork and scan it into my computer. Then I can print out a 4X6 photo and scrap or just organize the artwork. It works very well and then you can discard the actual artwork. You will have a more manageable sized item. HTH.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent idea =) thanks!
