I am writing every day in October--taking on the challenge set forth by The Nester for bloggers to write a "31 Days to..." blog series. I'm tackling Minimalist Living and you can click here to read Day 23's post.
Today I spent time putting things away and purging a bit more. Is the room "minimalist" like you'd see in a high-style home magazine? No. However, I decreased what was in there to a manageable level with no excess and that, to me, is minimalist. NO EXCESS!
The table in there is really too big for the space, but I'm making do until I can spend some time really figuring out what kind of table or counter I would like plus what kind of shelves or storage. For now, everything has a place and there is a place for everything.
Presenting my NEW IMPROVED scrapbook room!!
On the table is my cutting mat, paper cutter, 3 drawer organizer, and my file folder of scraps. Just to the left of the chair is my rolling tote which holds all my organized paper & photos. To the right of the chair is another paper holder. My plan is to buy NO new paper until I've used what I have. I have a nice view out of the window of the trees-and it's even better because I cleaned the window!
Here's the view looking into the room:
You can see my rolling tote & photos on top. I have a large basket with ALL the photos/memorabilia that I will work on scrapping in the next year. At the end of the table on the floor is a pink milk crate that holds my college scrapbook & photos & ephemera. It's an incomplete project, also, but I will finish it. (then I will hide it from my children and pray that they are adults when they see it, ha ha)
I had to practically climb into the furnace to get this shot of the cabinet which explains it's crookedness:
It holds my Cricut cartridges, some sewing stuff, my wedding stuff to scrapbook, and some artwork & photos to go into the kids' scrapbooks. Someday, maybe soon, I'll get that other door put back on.
I truly feel like a load has been lifted from me. Saying goodbye to "treasures" that really are not was easier than I had anticipated. I don't have to save every.little.thing that comes into my house. The kids will not suffer because I recycled some of their artwork. In 100 years the stuff I'm leaving behind will (hopefully) matter to someone and won't be viewed as a burden.
