Boy Survives Delayed Reaction To Peanut Allergy - Des Moines News Story - KCCI Des Moines

I haven't posted much about Bryce's food allergies lately. Mostly it's because they are such a non-event these days!! I don't mean that in the "he's outgrown them," but more in "we know what they are and keep him safe" kind of way.

This story illustrates why food allergies can be so very scary. Short of attending school with your young child or homeschooling, how is a parent supposed to keep their food allergic child safe? My one criticism here is that it appears the school's health plan does not say to immediately call 911 when ingestion of an allergen is known. They called the Mom, which is good-but they should've called for an ambulance. Hind sight is easy for me, right? ha ha.

What's Bryce allergic to these days?

Wheat, Dairy, Soy, Rye, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nut, Sesame, Cinnamon, Garlic

All produce hives. All but Garlic give him symptoms of anaphylaxis.
