Language

Bryce is getting good at communication. He's picked up a few more signs (hat, yes, book) and a few more words are coming out ("Nah Nah" = Brendan and "baba"=bottle). He's also shaking his head no or grunting to indicate no. He is blending sign and words together much like a student learning a 2nd language blends English with that other language (when I learned French, I was really good at "Franglais" until I learned enough words to speak clearly).

An example of this is when Bryce sees this particular plastic glass, either on the counter or in the cupboard or even in the dishwasher. It has an underwater scene of fish and Brad is the main user of this cup. When Bryce sees this, he frantically says "dada" and makes the sign for fish, over and over. It's very cute.

Brendan did well on his last spelling/vocab test, earning a 15/15. Here's his words: petrified, superfluous (one of my personal faves), interminable, vivacious, pacific. He also had coal & coal, gnu, knew and new.

Brett's been doing well in spelling. They are studying spelling conventions, rather than lists of words. For you non-teaching folk, it means they are learning the rules/patterns of words. It's a good way to do spelling, but I feel the words are much too easy for him. Here's this week's list: nose, toe, bone, goat, coat, hose, log, sock, top, frog, clock, fox. These are words he spelled in his 2nd year of Montessori, when he was 4. It's a little frustrating for him.
