Yep, it's dark when the boys catch their bus to school. They're awake at 6:30 and out the door to wait for the bus at 7:00 for a 7:05 pick up time. They have just shy of a 60 minute bus ride to school each day (plus one transfer) and about 50 minutes home each afternoon (including a transfer). It's much shorter than when Brendan was a first grader at this magnet school-he was on the bus about 2 hours and 15 minutes PER DAY-and that's when the school was a mere 3 miles from our house.
The good news is that the kids are morning people, so once they are up they can get ready for school quickly and be out the door on time. We've used that 2 hours long bus ride as daycare. The kids read, talk, etc to pass the time. I still think it stinks that living in suburbia they have to have such a ridiculously long bus ride to get to and from school. We could drive them, I suppose, but that seems such a waste of my time and $$. So they have an early morning. Builds character.
