I've decided to tackle our behemoth of a linen closet. We have reworked this particular part of our floor plan three times, I think. The door to enter this large linen closet used to be the entry to a bedroom. We closed off the bedroom and made it into our office and made the old entry/closet for the bedroom into our large linen closet. It's about 6' x 6' square. Nice, right? Well, it's become a huge dumping ground for all sorts of things. I'm guessing that we're not alone in how overstuffed our linen closet is, right?
Here's the linen closet, part 1. This first shot is the first shelf from the floor. Underneath are my 2 sewing machines and some table linens and the shelf above holds towels. They are a mess because, well, these are the kids' towels and when they grab one they destroy the pile.
So I started by sorting out the towels and kinda stacking them. This is sloppy here b/c it's a work in progress.
Then I decided that there was a lot of stuff in this closet that didn't really belong. I pulled it all out into the hallway. None of it is going back into that closet and most of it will go to the school rummage sale or into a new (more appropriate) spot. Wanna know what's in that large black trash bag? It's oatmeal containers. Yes. An entire black garbage bag of oatmeal containers. Why? I figured they were too nice to just recycle, so I've been saving them to take to Brett's school for his Mini-Society unit or maybe the art teacher can use them. But the bag is full, so they need to GO!
Trash that came from the closet:

I am amazed that you even HAVE closets. In our home, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms... We have exactly TWO closets. One in the master bedroom and one on the main floor for storage and kitty litter boxes. No coat closet, no closets in each bedroom... I am JEALOUS that you even have a place to tuck away your towels. On the other hand, it does become a trap for things you thing you will use later... Like oatmeal containers...
ReplyDeletelol!!!! yeah, those oatmeal containers took on a life of their own in that closet. (touche, by the way!)
DeleteWe are SOOO lucky to have a house with amazing closets. Each bedroom has a closest plus the playroom has a GINORMOUS closet and our huge linen closet...plus 500sq ft of basement. No garage, however, and that is the kicker.
The downer to so many closets is too much stuff can be stored in them.
