I've really let the garden get away from me this year. People have been asking what it looks like currently and my answer is, "Have you ever seen the movie Jurassic Park?" Yeah. Looks like Jurassic Park in my "back 40."
I have really struggled with my garden mojo since Brad's parents were killed. It's not an excuse, it's just the truth. We had all we could deal with just taking care of day to day living and the garden was not a priority. Even now, almost 2 months later, I have to force myself to get outside and look at the garden. Not sure why, maybe it's because just 3 days before his parents died we called Brad's Dad up with a few questions about corn. (brad's parents grew up with family farms). Of course his Dad knew the answer. And he asked about Bryce's "corn party" and yes, they were still invited to that. We never had a corn party; I just couldn't get it together enough to hold one for him. At any rate, the garden demands my attention and I'm trying to keep up with it.
Here are a few photos of some of my melon harvest this year. It really was a good summer for melons and we honestly could not keep up with the cantaloupe and watermelon production. The harvest was THAT GOOD. Yesterday I picked what is probably our last cantaloupe for 2012. It was about 6 pounds and it is GONE!!!
Your melons look so good and I love the corn stalks. It's been years since I had corn stalks to use for fall decorating. I really miss them. Do you grow your own pumpkins, too?
