It's All Fair!

2009 was a good year for our family at the Michigan State Fair-the oldest Fair in the USA. We entered 12 categories and placed in 5. That's ok-it's still fun!

Brendan was the big winner, taking a 1st for his model of a windmill, a 3rd for his collection of Cub Scout patches/insignia and an Honorable Mention for his K'nex rack that holds his Rexlace. Brett took a 3rd for his K'nex creation and an Honorable Mention for his clay chicken he made at school. Oddly, the painting that got him into our school district's art show this past Spring didn't receive a nod from the judges. Art is TRULY in the eye of the beholder. As for me, I got nothing. My cute little scrapbooks that I entered lost out to scrapbooks done in a very outdated style, using outdated materials and were actually a bit tacky. I'm not bitter, though.

Photos include pictures of each of the boys with one of their winning entries, Brett with a Budweiser Clydesdale (do see these in real life-they are magnificent animals), the traditional shot in front ofthe butter cow & calf, in front of the "big stove" (did you know that Detroit was first the capital of stove making-long before it was the Motor City?). The Michigan State Fair, the oldest state fair in the USA, is in jeopardy of being eliminated due to MI's budget constraints. Losing the Fair-that wouldn't be fair at all.
