I've been watching the garlic closely and noticed that it was very confused. The bottom rows of leaves started turning brown a few weeks back. Then, most of the green tops fell over. I convinced myself that a ridiculous rabbit had gone tromping through my garlic bed, knocking everything over. Then we had very severe winds and I thought the rest of the tops fell over because of the wind. So I watered them and waited. I watered some more.
I waited. Until today, when I saw that more of the leaves around the bottom were turning brown, I figured it was time to give it up and just pull it out. My garden helper Bryce was more than happy to help me, as he thinks it's HIS garlic as he helped me plant it last fall.
Sadly, the bulbs of garlic are very tiny. They have a great garlic scent to them and are nice and firm-but they're small. The best sized ones are about ping pong ball sized. Phooey. Well, I'll cure 'em and weigh 'em and we'll eat it anyway!
